Hamilton County Laborshed Report
We are pleased to present the 2004 Hamilton County laborshed analysis, completed by the Iowa Workforce Development. This study was designed to provide businesses with the laborforce data necessary to make informed decisions about their current and future location needs. This report contains valuable workforce information to assist local leaders, existing industry and site selectors with business expansion /relocation initiatives. Some of the information found in this report consists of commuting patterns, current and desired wages/salaries, available labor, workforce skills and employment numbers/percentages by industry in the Laborshed area.

According to the study, 52,000 workers are available within the labor market area. The area has a high concentration of skilled and experienced production and professional and technical workers.

Workforce Development, Education and Training
Workforce education and training programs are available through Iowa Central Community College's Webster City Learning Center and in Fort Dodge. Additional learning opportunities are available through Buena Vista College in Fort Dodge, Iowa State University (a 30-minute drive), and the University of Northern Iowa (a one hour drive).

Iowa Central Community College (ICCC) provides a variety of workforce education and training programs to meet employers' needs for well-educated, highly skilled workers. Some of the program offerings include:

  • Advanced Manufacturing Technology
  • Computer Technology Training
  • Homeland Security
  • Industrial Safety
  • Industrial Technology including CAD Technology
  • Professional Skills Development
  • Quality Systems and Productivity
  • Transportation Training

ICCC administers Iowa's job training program, one of the most unique and flexible training programs in the country. The Iowa Industrial New Jobs Training Program (260E) assists businesses, which are creating new positions, with new employee training. Eligible businesses may be new to Iowa, expanding their Iowa workforce, or relocating to the state. Up to 50 percent of the annual gross payroll costs expended for on-the-job training can be reimbursed for up to one year of the new jobs. A corporate tax credit is also available to a company that has entered into a 260E agreement and has increased Iowa employment by at least 10 percent.

ICCC also administers the 260F Iowa Jobs Training Program that helps to fund customized training for current employees that are located in Iowa. Job training services are defined as any training needed to enhance the performance of a business' employees.
